For Labor and Delivery, Integris nurses needed to watch fetal monitor display while charting on their EPIC monitor. For this application, a wall-mount was inadequate because the patient is frequently moved from room to room. A WOW with 24” monitors side-by-side would not fit through doorways and was generally awkward. The monitors could be stacked vertically on a WOW, but space would be an issue.
We interviewed the nurse in charge and evaluated her equipment and spaces. We inspected her existing Amico carts and determined we could drill through their tops and install a grommet-mounted pole with monitors stacked one above the other.
No additional space was required and the cost was far less than any other solution. One of my manufacturers offers a fetal monitoring cart at several time the cost of our simple conversion of an existing cart already in use in Labor and Delivery.
